Dear Yuletide Writer
Four requests, each of which makes me equally happy. I love to read genfic, but I have also written and enjoy reading slash, femslash and het. Anything other than porn with interchangeable characters is good with me, and I really wouldn't expect that from Yuletide. Most of all, you're writing me a fic in one of these fandoms, so my squee is all ready to be unleashed upon your words.
There is extensive rambling below the cut, in case you're the kind of writer who would prefer more detail. If you'd rather just grab a prompt and run, go now!
The New Mutants:
Any kind of fic that features Doug Ramsey using his skills would be adored - the other characters listed are suggestions, not required. I prefer genfic, but I have a very loose definition of "gen" and no preferred pairings!
I'm presuming you wouldn't have volunteered this fandom without knowing the canon, so you know what I mean about Doug's wasted potential. All the characters in this fandom are wonderful, and I love Dani, Rahne, Sam, Warlock...all of them! Stories in either the Xavier-as-headmaster era or Magneto-as-headmaster era are great, adventures or just hanging out at the mansion, just as long as Doug gets to do something.
Seaguy:
Will Mickey Eye be in charge forever? Can anyone change their stories? Who will help Xoo? Fic set in or breaking out of the cycle would be wonderful.
If you've offered something different but want to branch out, Seaguy is only three issues of comic, with wonderful cartoony art and a self-contained world of crazed superheroics and fascist Disney overlords. Grant Morrison planned to make this a trilogy, but it was never written or published, which gives you free reign. I really don't know if I'd want to see Seaguy and co. fight back against Mickey Eye (or even just help Xoo), or if it's inevitable that the Powers That Be will win, but I'd love to see more of this strange and colourful place.
Donna Tartt - The Secret History:
Camilla seemed to retreat into the background as the story reached its climax - what led her to pull back? Any combination of gen, het and (fem)slash is good - I know there's canon incest, but I'd prefer that not be graphic, please.
Another short and closed canon, just a single novel. I suspect that just about everyone who has been to university has picked this book up at one time or another, and been drawn into the claustrophobic and magnificently flawed world of the Classics class. After thinking about these characters again, I couldn't really ask for Richard or Henry, who define their own narratives pretty strongly, and that led me to thinking of the way that Camilla, after taking equal place with Charles, Henry and Francis in the early parts of the story, receded into being just a pale shadow in the background, in a closed-off twinship. I don't know if this was a defensive mechanism of Camilla's or a problem with the way Richard, as narrator, saw her, but I would love to know what was going on and what Camilla was doing in the aftermath of the murder and the subsequent occurrences. The story wouldn't have to be from her POV or even largely about her, but I want to know more of her. Additionally, I may read Supernatural fanfic, but I really don't want to read graphic incest, please - the level of hints and innuendo found in canon would be fine, of course.
Tintin:
Take Tintin to a new location, or revisit an old one - I'd prefer fics that are G/PG rated like the books, though unsettling undertones and canon-questioning are always welcome.
When I was little, living in bland and peaceful rural Australia, the Tintin books were a wonderful escape into magical worlds of cursed treasure, epic chases, dangerous flights, insanely complicated plots and the best swearing ever. The spirit of adventure, that peculiar mix of daring and innocence, runs through all the stories, but many people in the places to which they travel are having quite a different experience of the era, and obviously the shadow of WWII and the rise of fascism in Europe shadows many of the stories, as well as the Cold War technology boom afterwards. I find it difficult to look at a lot of the Tintin stories quite as naively as I did as a child, but I'm not asking for the Great Deconstructed Tintin - just a little awareness of that Tintin travels in other people's lands, and that the people he meets are not just exotic scenery, something that Herge developed more and more as he continued the series. There's plenty of gaps in the stories already told, and many more places for Tintin to go, and either would make me very happy. The supporting cast are all wonderful, and the characters I listed are really just examples of who I'd like to see - anyone is terrific, or just Tintin (and Snowy) are fine, too.
ETA: Assignments have come through, and my new assignment is different! Oh noes! I could have written one of the first requests, though, and I can write two of the new requests, so I feel like I've had an unexpected upgrade on an plane. *settles back into business class seat*
