Having a broken wrist, even my non-dominant hand, is super annoying. And having a cast means no swimming which means my arthritic SI joint is kicking up a fuss. Lots of wobbly stretches and heatpacks at the moment. On the positive side, I went to the fracture clinic and the bone remains perfectly in place, so no surgery needed, there are no signs of osteoporosis, and five more weeks in the cast should fix everything. My osteoporosis worry is because I had TSH medically suppressed for 12 years due to the thyroid cancer, which can affect bone density, and because my mother has serious osteoporosis. Then again, we are very different builds - she's tiny and delicate, I'm a big chonker and I haven't been under the 64kg risk threshold since I was about eleven

In better news, baby lizards have emerged!
Typed one-handed with help from a concerned elderly cat, please forgive typos.

I tripped on a rucked up mat at the doorway of the fruit and veg shop and took a dive onto their flower stand. I have a small gash on my head but also, it turns out after several hours at the hospital, a broken wrist. It does not currently need surgery but I have to go to the fracture clinic in Geelong some time next week for further assessment. Everyone at the hospital was lovely, professional and helpful, which was a huge relief, but the nurses had to try to coordinate care with the specialists in Geelong who kept just forgetting about their calls. The nurses were extremely patient but also followed up relentlessly (it didn't help that it was the first week for new registrars and they didn't know how to work their systems). st_aurafina now has to do everything because I am in full plaster with strict instructions on keeping the arm raised to prevent inflammation and lower the likelihood of surgery. It's not terribly painful but it is exhausting and very annoying.

More annoying, the timing meant I couldn't get to a telehealth appointment with my gastro and the clinic is scrambling to reorganise because I have one restricted auto-immune-related medication which can only be precribed by him after an assessment (it's a mAb) and we have to leave time for Medicare to approve it. But the clinic is good and they are doing their best, so it should be okay.

It's a volar Barton's fracture, breaks highlighted by me.

comments

It's very strange to get into a big, old fandom rather than being one of the people there for approximately the last million years! I played Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild last January to April (I try to have a new, long game to play every summer, but this one took a while) and fell headfirst into the fandom.

This is actually my third fic in this fandom but the other two are for exchanges and are waiting patiently for reveals in the next few months.

If I Speak to You of Memories and Dust (8436 words) by lilacsigil
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Link & Zelda (Legend of Zelda), Mipha/Zelda (Legend of Zelda), Link/Revali (Legend of Zelda), Link/Trott
Characters: Link (Legend of Zelda), Zelda (Legend of Zelda), Impa (Legend of Zelda), Purah (Legend of Zelda), Symin (Legend of Zelda), Gotter (Legend of Zelda), Paya (Legend of Zelda)
Additional Tags: past Mipha/Zelda, Past Link/Revali (Legend of Zelda), Grief/Mourning, Photographs, Post-Calamity Ganon, Post-Game(s), Sheikah Slate, Canonical Character Death
Summary:
Zelda knew Link would lose his memory in the Shrine of Resurrection, so she tried to leave him all the reminders that she could. This did not go as planned.

Loosely inspired by this comic:
https://saehral.tumblr.com/post/158263900833/the-sheikah-slate-was-a-little-disappointing-i

comments

Hi! I have been doing Yuletide for a long time now, so I am very happy with whatever you would like to write, with the exception of my DNW list. I am also happy for you to include as many or as few of the nominated characters as you wish. If you're not sure about anything, or want to do a crossover with another fandom and need to check if I know it, just ask my partner st_aurafina - she can keep a secret!

Things I enjoy: stories about female characters, plot, character interaction, casefic, character competence, gen fic, queerness in general, exploring a canon world. I also like OCs as a way to expand the canon universe, so if that's a direction you want to go, that would be great. AUs are awesome – both in the sense of a deviation from canon and a completely different world – as long as they're not mundane AUs. Coffee shop no, superpowered coffee shop yes.

Do Not Wants: non-con or rape; non-canon permanent character deaths (canon deaths are fine, or an OC death for a casefic); mentor/student, adult/teen or adult/child sexual interaction; E-rated fic with under-18 characters; zombies; apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic AUs; mundane AUs; cancer or other serious non-fictional illness even if it was canon (see exception in Magic for Liars request). For Marvel canons, no Thanos snap or anything related, please. No COVID-19 mentions please.

( The Defenders (TV) )

( Magic for Liars - Sarah Gailey )

( New Mutants )

( Star Trek: Picard )

Thank you for writing for me!

comments

Hi! Thanks for making something for me! I've chosen both fanart and fanfic for each of my prompts and would be thrilled with either. If we've matched on Imperial Radch and you don't want to draw an entire spaceship or station, a place in/on the ship or station would be great.

Things I enjoy: character interaction, exploring a canon world, interesting use of superpowers or non-human abilities, crossovers, established relationships, teammates to lovers, enemies to friends or lovers.

Do Not Wants: non-con or rape; non-canon permanent character deaths (canon deaths are fine); mentor/student, adult/teen or adult/child sexual interaction; zombies; apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic AUs; mundane AUs; cancer or other serious and possibly terminal illness (short or long-term disability is fine.)

What I'm really looking for in this exchange is people being competent. "Competent" doesn't have to mean victorious or heroic but I really like to see characters who have goals, whether it's relationship goals or taking over New York or saving the world or protecting their crew or all of the above! Another thing I really love is expanding a canon world or a character's place in or understanding of it. In art terms, I like to see characters doing something, whether fighting together or fighting each other or maybe learning/training together, or on a date in the clouds. I like complex heroes with flaws and complex villains who think they're doing the right thing.

comments

So I enjoyed the Good Omens TV show but found the Anathema & Newt storyline much flatter than in the books. Then I saw a tumblr post positing Newt as a nerdy woman instead, and that really worked for me!

Must Have Own Vehicle (3613 words) by lilacsigil
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Good Omens (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Anathema Device/Newton Pulsifer
Characters: Newton Pulsifer, Anathema Device, Sister Grace Voluble
Additional Tags: Post-Canon, Trans Female Newt, job search
Summary:
Newt Pulsifer is going to get a new job. But what kind of job will take references from a Witchfinder? Is Anathema still going to be her girlfriend now that the Prophecies are destroyed? And why is Grace the librarian so mean to her? (Actually, she knows the answer to the last one: it's because of the library computers she accidentally destroyed. But it sounded better as a question.)

comments

So I haven't been well and was disappointed that I didn't feel game to sign up for femslashex but then meds kicked in a bit, the prompts got to me and I wrote...five fics.

Two Marvel (one with a Sandman crossover)

High Stakes (5055 words) by lilacsigil
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: X-Men (Comicverse)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ororo Munroe/Raven | Mystique
Characters: Ororo Munroe, Raven | Mystique
Summary:
Mystique and Ororo are both at the casino in Sydney to find the same item: an updated Genoshan power-suppression collar. When Ororo immediately recognises a disguised Mystique, Mystique feels the hand of Destiny.

Death and the Widow (2981 words) by lilacsigil
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Sandman (Comics)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Death of the Endless/Natasha Romanov (Marvel)
Characters: Natasha Romanov (Marvel), Death of the Endless
Additional Tags: Canonical Character Death, Red Room, Ballet
Summary:
Death likes humans, but their lives are so short that she usually only gets to see them twice, and they don't remember one of those. Natasha is different.

One Killing Eve, which I enjoy a lot but hadn't previously written:

Containment (4441 words) by lilacsigil
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Killing Eve (TV 2018)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Eve Polastri/Villanelle | Oksana Astankova
Characters: Eve Polastri, Villanelle | Oksana Astankova, Carolyn Martens
Additional Tags: Locked In, Hiding, Ice Cream, Voyeurism, Masturbation
Summary:
A kill order is out for Villanelle and everyone she knows, so Carolyn orders Eve into hiding. Eve tries to make her own fun until a surprise visitor shows up.

And two Original Works, which is not something I've done in fandom before! One is early Edo Period Japan, which was fun, and the other is shapeshifters in present-day Melbourne. I hardly ever write in an Australian setting (none of my fandoms are Australian) and so it's quite trippy to do so!

Seventh Hour by the Moon (8060 words) by lilacsigil
Chapters: 2/2
Fandom: Original Work
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Original Female Character/Original Female Character, Noblewoman Entering an Arranged Marriage/Her Noblewoman Bride
Characters: Original Female Character(s)
Additional Tags: Edo Period, Arranged Marriage, Aristocracy, Butch/Femme
Summary:
Matsu had always expected that she would be married away to another house, but she had not expected that she would be married to a woman.

Heart in Danger (13560 words) by lilacsigil
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Original Work
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Original Female Character/Original Female Character, Adorable Monstergirl/Hunter Who Ignores Warnings Because She’s Cute
Additional Tags: Shapeshifting, Australia, University, Monster Hunters
Summary:
Jenelle's mum hunts illegal shapeshifters for a living, and Jenelle has never questioned that.
Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you so much for writing a story for me! I've tried to put plenty of information for each fandom, but if you would like to write something completely different please feel free!

Do Not Wants: non-con or rape; non-canon permanent character deaths (canon deaths are fine, or an OC murder for a casefic); mentor/student, adult/teen or adult/child sexual interaction; E-rated fic with underage characters; zombies; apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic AUs; mundane AUs; cancer or other serious non-fictional illness even if it was canon. For Marvel canons, no Thanos snap or anything related, please.

( The Defenders (TV) )

( Jessica Jones )

( Magic for Liars - Sarah Gailey )

( Twin Peaks )

( The Unstoppable Wasp )

Thank you for writing for me!

comments

Thank you so much for writing a story for me!

Things I enjoy: plot, character interaction, exploring a canon world, interesting use of superpowers (especially the less overtly powerful ones), crossovers, established relationships, teammates to lovers, enemies to lovers.

Do Not Wants: non-con or rape; non-canon permanent character deaths (canon deaths are fine); mentor/student, adult/teen or adult/child sexual interaction; zombies; apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic AUs; mundane AUs; cancer.

I've listed a huge array of characters, so I'm going to be fairly general in this letter. What I'm really looking for in this exchange is women being competent, and women focused on their relationships with women. "Competent" doesn't have to mean victorious or heroic - as you can see from my several villain nominations - but I really like to see characters who have goals, whether it's relationship goals or taking over New York or saving the world or all of the above! In art terms, I like to see characters doing something, whether fighting together or fighting each other or maybe learning/training together, or on a date in the clouds. I like complex heroes with flaws and complex villains who think they're doing the right thing.

I would also like to assure you that although I am a long-time comics fan, I am absolutely not a canon purist in any shape or form. I don't care if Volume 2 Issue #126 of Ladies Comics in 1978 had the same first meeting as you want to write or draw - I want to see your version. You want to only use one particular version of canon, that's great! If you want to bring in movieverse canon to comics or comics backstory to movies, I will enjoy it. About the only part of Marvel that I'm not really into is the cosmic stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy (Asgardians excepted), so I may not be so up on that.

If you have any questions, ask my partner st_aurafina.

comments

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you so much for writing a story for me! I've tried to put plenty of information for each fandom, but if you would like to write something completely different please feel free! I am also happy for you to include as many or as few of the nominated characters as you wish. If you're not sure about anything, or want to do a crossover with another fandom and need to check if I know it, just ask my partner st_aurafina.

Things I enjoy: stories about female characters, plot, character interaction, gen fic, slash, femslash, female-centric het, exploring a canon world. I also like OCs as a way to expand the canon universe, so if that's a direction you want to go, that would be great. AUs are awesome – both in the sense of a deviation from canon and a completely different world – as long as they're not mundane AUs. Coffee shop no, superpowered coffee shop yes.

Do Not Wants: non-con or rape; non-canon character deaths (canon deaths are fine); mentor/student, adult/teen or adult/child sexual interaction; zombies; apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic AUs; mundane AUs; cancer.

( Baker Street (graphic novel) )

( Daredevil (comics) )

( The Defenders (TV) )

( Hawkeye (comics) )

( Jessica Jones (TV) )

( Twin Peaks )

comments

I received an absolutely amazing fic for Yuletide! It's a Wonder Woman fic, about Doctor Maru hunting down Diana in the aftermath of WWI. Doctor Maru was a character who really fascinated me in the movie, but I thought I was setting a massive challenge to anyone who matched with me on that prompt, as I didn't want her cruelty or violence to be downplayed or erased. My mystery author has come through with flying colours by setting this over a long, long period of time, giving Maru opportunity and need to change and adapt - and be changed by what she experiences, too. A wonderful, wonderful fic, rich with detail and with compassion worthy of Diana herself. It's formatted as a five things, but it's a series of scenes in the one story, rather than five AUs.

Five Times Dr. Maru Faced Wonder Woman (And One Time She Didn't) (6152 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Wonder Woman (2017)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Diana (Wonder Woman)/Isabel Maru
Characters: Etta Candy, Hippolyta (Wonder Woman)
Additional Tags: Ambiguous/Open Ending, Supervillainry, 5 Things
Summary:
The first time Dr. Maru sees the god-woman, she doesn't expect to survive.

(Aaaand I've just realised that the title is also literal - one time she doesn't face up to Diana at all! Great titling, mystery author!)

Things I don't enjoy: non-con or rape, non-canon character deaths (canon deaths are fair game), mentor/student, adult/teen or adult/child sexual interaction, zombies, apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic AUs, mundane AUs.

( Daredevil (comics) )

( Emma Frost (comics) )

( Imperial Radch - Ann Leckie )

( Wonder Woman (2017) )

comments
