Help! Firefly!

Oh dear. A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through the prompts for the lgbtfest, a Firefly prompt leapt out and grabbed me by the brain, so I immediately claimed it. Unfortunately, though my canon knowledge of Firefly is just fine, I really haven't read a lot of fic in this fandom, and now that I'm actually writing, I'm finding that there's a big gap in my knowledge of fandom conventions. Is their little all-terrain transport "the Mule" or "the mule"? How much slang gets into Simon's speech?

Would anyone be able to rec me some post-Serenity fics? I'd really want gen-ish fics showing the whole crew and the ship, though I'd prefer not to read extended fics that go into their own detailed canon, as I'm already easily confused. It will help me not waste time rehashing concepts that everyone understands, and making sure that my written terminology isn't completely jarring. Links to your own work are extremely welcome!
