There are massive fires engulfing large parts of rural Victoria today and at least 14 people are confirmed dead, with many more likely to be found dead in coming days. The fires in Gippsland, where I grew up, are so huge that they're creating pyroculumus cloud formations - they're making their own thunderstorms. Fortunately for me, the only fire in my district is not immediately threatening any towns, is a good 50km north, and I am in no danger, this time. This is certainly not the case for many other Victorians tonight - please keep them and the brave volunteers of the Country Fire Authority in your thoughts.
