X3 Tarot: post-event analysis

Three weeks ago, st_aurafina and I used our less-than-mighty Powers of Tarot to determine what might happen in X3. Now comes the analysis, and at stake are many, many marshmallows. (It would have been Tim Tams, but there were crazy people in that aisle at the supermarket and we ran away.)
Correct answer = 2 marshmallows
Partially correct = 1 marshmallow
Wrong = no marshmallows (... what? You thought I'd take them away again?)

1. Will Scott die?
Queen of Swords, 10 of Staves, 7 of Swords

st_aurafina:
ANSWER = NO (maybe there will be a faked death or everyone thinks he's dead)
DEFENCE: There was no body! (1 marshmallow for faked death)

lilacsigil:
ANSWER = YES (he will die seemingly futilely but his death actually holds purpose)
DEFENCE: Bugger. It held no purpose at all. (1 marshmallow for death)

Overall reading indicates: incomplete victory. (yes, of James Marsden over the scriptwriters)

2. Will Charles die?
Tower, 9 of Cups, Hanged Man

st_aurafina:
ANSWER =NO (but he will retreat)
DEFENCE: There was a battle of ideologies and he retreated! (2 marshmallows)

lilacsigil:
ANSWER =YES (at least symbolically)
DEFENCE: There was a catastrophic strike and he had a big "inspiring" funeral (2 marshmallows)

Overall reading indicates: destruction of important thing/idea which is not as important as it seems. (Yes, that thing was Charles's body!)

3. Is Jean evil, and is it really Jean?
6 of Pentacles, Emperor, 4 of Staves

st_aurafina:
ANSWER = SHE'S NOT EVIL JUST POWERFUL. IT IS JEAN.
DEFENCE: She wasn't evil! Just hungry! Sometimes it was Jean. (1 marshmallow for not evil)

lilacsigil:
ANSWER = SHE IS NOT EVIL, IT IS JEAN (but she will say she is not for a while).
DEFENCE: She did claim to be Jean, and she really just liked boys for lunch (1 marshmallow for it being Jean. Or not.)
Overall reading indicates: choice and modest victory (Well, she let Logan kill her in the end.)

4. Will there be Wolverine/Rogue in this movie?
8 of Pentacles, 9 of Swords, 4 of Pentacles.

st_aurafina:
ANSWER = NO (but there will be hints and conflict)
DEFENCE: He did use the word "Daddy". (1 marshmallow for conflict, none for hints)
lilacsigil:
ANSWER = NO, THEY WON'T BE TOGETHER MUCH
DEFENCE: She was too busy at the abortion clinic to have time with Daddy Logan (2 marshmallows)

Overall reading indicates: static. (Between them? Well, yes.)

5. Will Erik finally facilitate a massacre?
Ace of Staves, Page of Swords, King of Cups

st_aurafina:
ANSWER = YES BUT HE'LL BE SORRY
DEFENCE: There was no big catastrophe, but boy was he sorry. (1 marshmallow)

lilacsigil:
ANSWER=NOT REALLY (but some initial casualties)
DEFENCE: Well, he was stopped by his own stupidity really, and the casualties were on his side (1 marshmallow for young folks paying the price)

Overall reading indicates: unexpected intervention. (BEEEEEEAST!)

6. Will Mystique save the day again?
5 of Cups, Queen of Staves, Empress

st_aurafina: Some aspect of her relationship with Erik changes and she is caught up in her loss to start with, unable to see the good in the changes. She states what she wants and her value and that he doesn't give it to her. She will become the other half to him after the big battle – they will finally find yin-yang balance, she may be the stronger part.
ANSWER=YES, AND SHE WANTS RESPECT THIS TIME
DEFENCE: see above! Woot! (2 marshmallows for writing a sequel as well!)

lilacsigil: She is uncomfortable with the little they have achieved and not really wanting to go down that path again, but she will. At some stage, she will act independently of either side and make an important personal decision. This will either leave her in a very strong nurturing or leadership position OR she will leave the picture in favour of the Phoenix.
ANSWER = NO, SHE WILL OPT OUT.
DEFENCE: Well, she did choose to opt out as far as we know. (1 marshmallow because she didn't meet Jean or nurture anyone)

Overall reading indicates: independent decision-making. (Definitely true!)

7. Will the school go on?
Strength, 10 of Cups, 3 of Cups

st_aurafina:
ANSWER = YES, RUN BY HENRY MCCOY
DEFENCE: It did, but Henry was against it (1 marshmallow for half-right)

lilacsigil:
ANSWER = YES
DEFENCE: But who really cares? Storm's running it now. (1 marshmallow for ennui)

Overall reading indicates: the school will flourish because of changes (It flourished in spite of changes)

8. What will John/Pyro decide?
The Star, 8 of Staves, Ace of Pentacles

st_aurafina:
ANSWER: HE CHOOSES THE RIGHT THING.
DEFENCE: There is no defence. He gave up his brain when he joined Magneto (no marshmallows)

lilacsigil:
HE CHOOSES GOOD AND DIES OR SUFFERS SEVERE CHANGE
DEFENCE: He didn't choose anything, but he blew shit up. Yay. (no marshmallows)

Overall reading indicates: Pyro chooses the right thing (whatever it is) for the right reasons. He will be separated from his past life in some way. (Choice! Hah! What about some lines?)

9. Does Jean die for real?
The Lovers, 10 of Swords, The Moon

st_aurafina:
ANSWER = SHE WILL THINK SHE'S DEAD BUT SHE ISN'T.
DEFENCE: Who knows? (1 marshmallow for ambiguity)

lilacsigil:
ANSWER = MAYBE LIFE OR DEATH IS NOT THE REAL CHOICE
DEFENCE: Well, it was. (1 marshmallow for predicting great harm to Scott and Charles)

Overall reading indicates: false perceptions and forced decisions. (Poor zombie Jean. She ate Scott. And Charles. And bits of Logan. She needs a telekinetic toothpick.

Three Bonus Questions

1. What's Kitty all about in X3? (for ion_bond)
Judgement, Ace of Cups, King of Pentacles
st_aurafina: Kitty is more important than the viewer expects. Erik will have a strong opinion of her and this will change his view on life. She is a symbol of youth and hope and may take Erik from his bitter apocalyptic mindset to what he will see as a state of mind more befitting a benevolent, stable monarch.

DEFENCE: They didn't speak two words. (no marshmallows!)

lilacsigil: Kitty will be annoyingly used as a symbol of youth and/or hope rather than a character. She will be caught up in events beyond her control, but things will work out for her with a balance of loss and gain, due to the intervention or control of an older and powerful man (Erik? Professor? Wolverine?).

DEFENCE: She was an annoying symbol! And Bobby was the older man! (2 marshmallows)

Overall reading indicates: Kitty is symbolic and doesn't get much say in things (but she did hang her mouth open for the whole movie as if she was about to speak).

2. Will Magneto die? (for sionnain)
8 of Cups, the Fool, the Empress

st_aurafina: He will turn his back on the battle and walk away while it's still in progress. He will put aside everything that he has ever done in his life and start anew – this could also indicate loss of his mutant powers. His powers are so integral to his personality that it will be as if he is reborn. Maybe even amnesia! Also there will be a bit with a dog. He will allow himself to be guided by a powerful female, maybe Mystique.
ANSWER = NO
DEFENCE: Totally right, except for the bit with a dog, unless that's Pyro! (2 marshmallows)

lilacsigil: He will leave the field of battle, before victory or loss is decided. This decision will be made with his heart and his humanity, much to his surprise. Phoenix will have ultimate control of his fate.
ANSWER = NO
DEFENCE: He did leave before the battle was done, but had little to do with Phoenix (1 marshmallow)

Overall reading indicates: Withdrawing from the field to be affected by other forces.

3. What's the new bad guy all about?
Two of cups, the Hermit, Page of Wands

st_aurafina: The new bad guys are Wanda and Pietro! They have been on their own trying to find out who they are and have come to Magneto to confront him and he has engaged them as part of his massive scheme.
DEFENCE: Oh, that it had been! (no marshmallows)

lilacsigil: The new bad guy or guys are the spin-off of a previous program or project. The originator of the project is no longer in the picture and there is a new, more driven leader. However, this person is inexperienced and over-estimates hir capabilities. They are not personally in the fight but have troops or a weapon to do the fighting for them.
DEFENCE: Who was the bad guy again? Was there a plot? Did I blink and miss it? (no marshmallows)

Overall reading indicates: young and inexperienced bad guy/s (I think we expected some kind of co-ordinated opposition. How foolish.)
