Is anyone else watching Journeyman and getting a bit suspicious about a certain tendency
...to spend every episode having pregnancy storylines and telling women what to do with their kids/men/lives?
Episode 1
-A woman is persuaded not to have an abortion (red flag!) and later she and her son have to be saved from the baby's murderous father.
-I have no idea what the main female character, Katie, does for a living - this is highly relevant considering that her husband is already having job problems.
Episode 2
-Two of the main four characters (a married couple) have planned a "conceive a second baby" getaway, which goes awry. Katie keeps bringing up doubts but Dan talks over them, then Katie turns out to be on the pill and Dan goes mental, despite the apology at the end.
-Also, the main character delivers a baby on a plane, then encourages the mother to let the daughter know who the father is, despite her misgivings. The mother later dies, and the father is indeed an asshole and sends the daughter away with some cash.
-In the past, the two main female characters discuss a pregnancy scare.
I really like several things about the show - particularly Livia, the dead woman who also time-travels, and the fact that Dan immediately told Katie what was going on, and found a way to prove it. I like the idea of going back in time and rearranging lives to suit some mysterious and not necessarily benevolent plan, plus the sharp drop in technology every time Dan travels back more than a year or so. Putting Dan on the no-fly list was great - consequences for actions is always the mark of a good show. I love the cast, especially Moon Bloodgood and Kevin McKidd. But the whole "Go back in time and tell women what to do" plotline plus "women are obsessed with pregnancy" vibe is really making me uncomfortable.
Any dissenting opinions? I'm not spoiled for any further episodes.
