Twelve thousand words is the longest story I've ever written, not counting endless exercise books filled with teenage fanfic before I knew what fanfic was (and, thankfully, before there was internet!). I've now hit 10,000 words in three days, much to my astonishment, and finished two chapters. My planning for chapters involved writing down the numbers 1 to 10 - because my average fic is about 5000 words - and putting an event by each number. So far, each chapter is just over 5000 words and I am amazed!

I'm still not posting excerpts, because I feel quite uncomfortable about it, but I'm really enjoying reading everyone else's, and maybe I'll get my courage up when I've written a bit more and feel like I'm not riding down the rickety mineshaft railway from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and it could collapse any second.
