It was one of those days off where we get a lot done. But the rainy weather fills me with joy - everything is green and beautiful, and everything seems possible. The brown creeks are overflowing their banks after years of barely filling at the wettest time of year. Billabongs that have been empty for years are full again, and black swans are nesting there. We saw this year's first cygnets today, little brown fluffy things clustered around the big reedy nest, their parents protecting them from the hawks.
I went to the doctor for the regular thyroid test. This is always a bit nerve-wracking because we haven't had a regular doctor in over 2 years, so every time I go, there's a whole big explanation of my annoyingly lengthy medical history to a stranger. On the bright side, each new doctor has their own interests that intersect with my various conditions - this one has a family history of chronic Vitamin D deficiency and MS, so she was most interested in my low levels of Vitamin D and took blood to test for that, as well as the usual thyroid stuff.
Aeon (in the icon) had her teeth cleaned under anaesthetic 10 days ago - she had a big sheet of plaque and tonsillitis, requiring banana-flavoured antibiotics. Yes, apparently cats have tonsils. That very night, she started eating like a fiend. Her hips are filling out again, her coat is soft and shiny, and she frisks across the lawn like a kitten.
We bought a new couch before Christmas, and while the couch's frame is great, the cushions were tragic, cheap foam rubber and squashed flat months ago, meaning that sitting on the couch leads to a sore back and pins and needles in the thighs. We went to Clark Rubber today and they happily cut us new cushions, which are a million times more comfortable than the old ones. I bought knitting needles to have a go at knitting - which I haven't done since I was eight - inspired by this post by
synecdochic. We went to Collins to see if it had
jo_graham's book, but as the bookshop seems to carry fewer books every time (seriously, I have more books in my house!), it didn't. New chairs for work, a health food shop that didn't seem to want
st_aurafina to read the labels, a tasty vegie burger (too much mayo, but delicious roast eggplant!) and banana smoothie for lunch at Logans in Warrnambool. True Blood is on tonight. The sky is cloudy and promises even more rain. Even the Season 5 Supernatural promo looks awesome, and I'm giving it one more episode to draw me back.
Everything is pretty damn good.
