I'm back home! I was so happy to be back that I cried on
st_aurafina. I'd like to do a post, but I'm too tired and stupefied.
- I had to stay in for three nights instead of one because of large amounts of fluid draining from my neck. They couldn't let me go home until this was resolved, but it's all fine now.
- The surgeon whipped out a few lymph nodes while he was there just because they were resting on the thyroid. Everything looked good, but I will get full results in 2 weeks.
- All the staff, from super-efficient cleaner army to student nurses to doctors, were absolutely kind and professional. There was no fat-shaming and no homophobia of any sort and everyone was wonderful. Even the food was good, though served in giant amounts and taken away after 30 minutes!
st_aurafina had to bring me some food because I couldn't get through the big meals but it was hours between them. All the staff were very concerned and careful, and while I had more pain than last time, especially inside my throat, I experienced much better care. I highly recommend Geelong Hospital despite the constant announcements calling security to various incidents!
- I'm not in too much pain, but very stiff and achy. After the first 36 hours where I had a horrid headache, Panadol has been enough to take care of it except that it isn't lasting the full four hours and then I go a bit silly until the next dose arrives. Heatpacks are great, though. My neck, inner elbows and wrists are spectacularly bruised, and I keep finding random bruises elsewhere, like next to my navel or on my leg. I don't have as many numb spots as last time, but that's probably because my calcium levels are great. They did the flick-you-in-the-face test that
st_aurafina had House perform in Rebuild the Bridges in Your Mind. I was still surprised when the student doctor actually did it, though!
Thank you for all the lovely comments and to
prozacpark for the four-leafed clover!
