Two Western Australian trans men won a court battle to have their identities be legally male without having to have hysterectomies (yes, to change your birth-assigned gender you had to be surgically sterilised.) The WA Attorney General then appealed against the ruling and won, meaning that the men cannot now change their documentation to be legally male and are appealing to the High Court of Australia. The men's lawyers are acting pro bono, but costs are starting to mount and there is now a GoFundMe account to help with this case.
I know there's a lot of fundraising appeals at the moment, but this case is really important to Australian law. Giving people the choice between compulsory sterilisation (regardless of your wishes, health status or the health risks) or risking their lives by having documentation that doesn't match their gender presentation is a horrible and unjust thing to do, and I'm ashamed that this battle needs to be fought.
If you have any small amount to spare, please think about directing it here. Further information and links are available at nixwilliams' blog.
