1. [livejournal.com profile] help_mindanao is a (so far) fairly small fan auction aimed at helping people affected by the floods in Mindanao in December. More than 1000 people are dead or still missing and more than 100,000 people have been displaced. It's also the one year anniversary of the massive Queensland floods - which extended right down into Victoria, flooded a number of towns near mine and briefly cut off my town - so I thought I would offer a box of Australian lollies and biscuits, including Tim Tams. I will post it anywhere in the world at my expense. I'm perfectly happy to cater to allergies or just plain dislikes - bidding starts at $10, donated to any charity that's working in Mindanao. There's a good list on the auction site.

2. The first gen iPod Nano was recalled late last year because of overheating and/or exploding batteries. I had one of these iPods, which I hadn't used in ages, and I sent it in. Today, a tiny, brand new current-generation touchscreen iPod Nano arrived - less than half the size of the one it replaced - and I'm not going to use it. Would any Australians flisters/circlers like it? It's this one in black. Don't be shy - it's not being put to any use here! Leave a comment or PM me! ETA: Claimed!

Two Western Australian trans men won a court battle to have their identities be legally male without having to have hysterectomies (yes, to change your birth-assigned gender you had to be surgically sterilised.) The WA Attorney General then appealed against the ruling and won, meaning that the men cannot now change their documentation to be legally male and are appealing to the High Court of Australia. The men's lawyers are acting pro bono, but costs are starting to mount and there is now a GoFundMe account to help with this case.

I know there's a lot of fundraising appeals at the moment, but this case is really important to Australian law. Giving people the choice between compulsory sterilisation (regardless of your wishes, health status or the health risks) or risking their lives by having documentation that doesn't match their gender presentation is a horrible and unjust thing to do, and I'm ashamed that this battle needs to be fought.

If you have any small amount to spare, please think about directing it here. Further information and links are available at nixwilliams' blog.
